Sanju Samson Silences Critics, Joins Rohit and Rahul in Elite T20I Club
Sanju Samson has answered his critics in the most emphatic way possible. After a frustrating stretch that saw him manage just 33 runs across four innings, the Kerala batter produced a standout performance against Afghanistan that has now placed him in an exclusive bracket of Indian cricketers alongside Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. For a player who has spent years fighting for a settled spot in India's white-ball setup, this milestone carries extra significance.
The timing could not have been more crucial. With teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi knocking loudly on the selection door and the Asian Games looming on the calendar, Samson was under mounting pressure to justify his place in the squad. Murmurs about his inconsistency had grown louder, and another failure against Afghanistan may well have reopened the debate about his long-term future in the team. Instead, he delivered exactly when it mattered most.
A Much-Needed Statement Innings
Samson's knock was not just about personal milestones; it was a statement of intent. Playing with the freedom and fearlessness that made him a vital cog in India's triumphant T20 World Cup campaign, he reminded everyone why he was trusted with a key role in that title-winning squad. The innings showcased his classic wristy strokeplay combined with calculated aggression, traits that selectors and fans have long admired but wanted to see more consistently.
By etching his name alongside Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul in this elite list, Samson has strengthened his case heading into a busy period of international cricket. The competition for white-ball spots remains fierce, especially with young talents like Sooryavanshi emerging as genuine contenders. However, this innings serves as a timely reminder of Samson's class and his ability to rise to the occasion under pressure.
As India gears up for the Asian Games and further assignments, all eyes will be on whether Samson can maintain this rediscovered form. If he does, he could well cement his place as one of India's most reliable and dynamic white-ball batters for years to come.
