Why Rahane's Measured T20 Style Splits Opinion at KKR

However, not everyone is convinced that the criticism is fair. Chandrakant Pandit, who recently stepped down as KKR's head coach citing personal reasons, has come out in defense of his former captain. Pandit, who played a key role in Rahane's elevation to the leadership role last season, believes the outside noise fails to appreciate the bigger picture. He compared Rahane's game to that of Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad, suggesting that all three share a similar template — composed, adaptable batting that holds up across formats rather than chasing flashy numbers in isolation.

According to Pandit, Rahane's job within the current KKR setup is not to blaze away in the powerplay but to anchor the innings and set a platform for the aggressive middle order to capitalize on. He pointed to the presence of power-hitters like Rovman Powell as evidence that KKR's batting is designed around complementary roles rather than uniform aggression. In Pandit's view, judging Rahane purely on strike rate ignores the tactical framework the team is trying to build around him.

Still, KKR's larger problems extend beyond just their captain's batting tempo. The bowling unit has also struggled, with frontline spinner Varun Chakaravarthy conceding economy rates upwards of nine runs an over in recent games, further amplifying pressure on a side already searching for answers. Mentor Gautam Gambhir has publicly backed Rahane's leadership, even as speculation about a possible mid-season reshuffle continues to swirl. Pandit's own departure, reportedly following strategic disagreements within the camp, has only added to the intrigue surrounding KKR's troubled campaign, leaving fans to wonder whether a change in course might have altered the team's fortunes.
